Thanksgiving north of the 49th. E-mail
Blog

It's thanksgiving week end here in Canada, it is assumed that Canadian thanksgiving is earlier than American thanksgiving because of the growing season, but in truth is because of the sasquatches. The massive sasquatch migration takes place in late November and everyone is locked away in the houses for safety sake. That is where the tradition of hanging back bacon over our doors comes from.

Any how

Thanksgiving is unparalleled as my favorite holiday bar none. Christmas s for children and easter is for the catholics, but thanksgiving is for the rest of us. (Some catholics I know say I should be thankful to be neither) For me Thanksgiving is about food, and company. While so many of the holidays we celibate are artificially inflated to sell sell sell, Thanksgiving has for the large part dodged that bullet. Unless you are a purveyor of turkeys and cranberries, it which case this does not apply to you. Thanksgiving appeals to the pagan in me, the idea of a feast at the end of harvest allows me to feel I have reconnected with the earth. When in reality all I have done is gone to a friends house and cookie monstered half a turkey.

It is very unfashionable of me to like meat, almost as unfashionable as being a strait male, but I am unabashedly both. Thanksgiving without turkey is like a lobster with out an accordion. It is something that would only make sense to me. This holiday can be celebrated in any way, as long as it is done in reflection and good company, it's good.

So to all, I hope your thanksgiving is bountiful and joyous.

I am thankful for my family, who have had to deal with being related to me for so long. My brothers Patrick and Graham who are far more responsible than me but are still my little brothers. My Mom, whom I love dearly, and will likely only read this dedication when someone finds it for her. My Dad who surprises me, which is not something I am used to.

I'm thankful for my friends, All of whom show a remarkable amount of patience with me. Jennie, love ya, the sister I never had, but the one I deserve. Marina, who has helped me tremendously, there would be no Fashionable PigMonkey with out her help guidance and friendship. John Roy, the guy who is geared at the same speed as me. Ed, what can I say, you have taught me a lot, you just don't know it, (and no I won't tell you any more) Dean, the scrawniest enforcer on the planet. Nikki, My dance partner and winner of the worlds tallest hobbit award. Todd, My spiritual and surfing connection, welcome home. Hugh, one of the smartest guys I know. Chris T, not to be confused with Christ, He has one of the easiest going people I know, he is a good friend. Eric who is way smarter and more clever than he lets on. Gavin, the man more bitter than Turkish coffee. Logan who has some of the best one liners ever. There are so many others, Stacy, Kevin, Chris D, Gwen, Dave, Dave, Paul, Mel, Drew, Mike, Dingo, Christy, John and more I am sure. ( I reserve the right to come back and and more as they occur to me.)

I love where I live, where food and water is abundant. I have never had to go without food for more than 24 hours in my life except by choice. That is a gift.

I am thankful for the all the people who come to see my comic and read my work. I am thankful for the Internet (sometimes) because it allows those people to be from anywhere in the world.

I am thankful for my life. It is fraught with perils, pitfalls, and disasters, but it also has bad things in it too. With all the ups and downs, I still don't think I would switch with any one. Everyone has their issues, it's called living.

Happy Thanksgiving
